OUR CHURCH HISTORY
1980 – Pastor E.L. Howard, Pastor of Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church, had a desire to see the Gospel spread in the Shreveport area. Pastor Howard and Elder W.C. Jones, then Southwest Region Conference President, headed an evangelistic effort conducted by Evangelist J. Malcolm Phillips, Sr., which lasted eight weeks. As a result of this Evangelistic effort, some concerned members of the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church formed a company with the newly baptized members. Conference President W.C. Jones and E.L. Howard officially organized them on October the 4th 1980 with 41 members. The name for this congregation was the Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Elder Howard found our first place of worship at the New Zion Baptist Church.
1981-1982 – Pastor O.A. Jackson, Sr.’s leadership led to several Bible Studies, which were conducted in the home of the people in the community by the Cedar Grove members.
1982-1983 – Pastor J.R. Doggette, the third pastor of the Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church, inspired the Church to work towards purchasing our own Church facilities. Three lots were purchased.
1983-1986 – Pastor Selwyn Walter was the shepherd of the flock. At the time, the members left the New Zion Baptist Church and worshipped in a mission opened by Mrs. Collier. After leaving the mission the church worshipped in the home of Elder Herbert and Sis. Dorothy Harris. They patiently, graciously, and sacrificially opened their door to the church members every Sabbath during this time. After leaving the Harris’ home we rented the Stoner Hill Baptist Church for worship service. During Pastor Walter’s leadership the Lord blessed the members to find and purchase a building to be moved to our property.
1986-1991 - Pastor Norman Stiggers was called to pastor the Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Upon his arrival he along with Elder H.B. Harris, Sr. worked diligently challenging us to move forward in getting our building moved and renovated. Elder H.B. Harris, Sr. along with the building committee was responsible for the development of our very first edifice.
1991-1995 – Pastor Eddie Polite became the sixth pastor of the Cedar Grove Seventh- day Adventist Church. Under his leadership new members were added, and the Building Fund Program was revived. He concentrated on training members for serving the church and the community. Pastor Polite challenged the membership to support Christian Education. Pastor Polite preached his farewell sermon at the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church on July 29, 1995, entitled, “A Better Day After A While.”
In late 1995 the Lord sent Pastor Bryant to serve as Interim Pastor for the Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. He challenged the church to become more involved in soul-winning and taught the church how to be fishers of men. Under his leadership several souls were added to the fold. Pastor Bryant accepted another call on December 23, 1995.
1996-2000 – Pastor J.M. Phipps, Jr. was to pastor the Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Through his leadership our Building Fund drive greatly increased. We purchased three additional lots, and new members were added. Our building committee, under the leadership of Elder Virgil Bates, worked tirelessly to build and complete our beautiful sanctuary in 1999. The Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church’s dream of finally worshipping in our new sanctuary has been realized.
December 2000-2006 – Pastor Cedric Belcher was called to pastor the Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. He came with the Spirit of the Lord, and he has been sharing it with us. He preached his first sermon at Cedar Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church on December 30, 2000. With his love for youth the Pathfinders had an Induction Ceremony for the very first time in the history of the church on March 31, 2001. Pastor Cedric Belcher had a revival in April with the STAND 2001 and several souls were added to our fold. The HOPE 2002-JESUS revival brought ever more souls into our fold. We look forward to our final home, HEAVEN.
2006-2013 – Pastor Ennis V. Johnson served our congregation for 7 years. Through his years of service at Cedar Grove SDA Churcuh, Pastor Johnson encouraged the members to lead souls to Christ. In 2013, Pastor Johnson taught the “Daniel Series”.
June 2013 – January 2018 – Pastor R.W. Draggon was the shepherd of our flock. He diligently worked to help us prepare for the construction of a multi-purpose building. Pastor Draggon will always be remembered as the “Rapping Pastor”.
February 2018 – March 2019 – Pastor Etser Edouard was the shepherd of our flock. He held an evangelistic meeting here at Cedar Grove SDA entitled, “We All Need Hope.” Pastor Edouard also worked toward helping us prepare for the future construction of a multi-purpose building.
April 2019 – June 2022 – Pastor S. Eliot Brooks, III, was the pastor of our flock. During his short time at Cedar Grove, Pastor Brooks hit the ground running. Pastor Brooks served as one of the keynote speakers for the Health, Wellness, & Finance Seminar hosted by the Philadelphia SDA Church in Shreveport. Pastor Brooks was also the speaker for the 2019 Ark-La-Tex Youth Federation. Pastor Brooks helped our congregation to get involved with the Growing Young Cohort. Pastor Brooks worked diligently to help us prepare for the future construction of a multi-purpose building. During his time in Shreveport, Pastor Brooks could be heard on KOKA Gospel Radio Station, where viewers grew to know him as “Pastor E”.
July 2022 – April 2023 – Pastor Carl Ming was called to our congregation to serve as Interim Pastor. Pastor Ming was also the Southwest Region Conference Youth Director. Pastor Ming was here for a short time, but he helped revitalize our district’s AY ministries.

April 2023 – Present – Pastor Winston Taylor was called to our district. He hit the ground running with the Evangelistic Series, “Come Grow With Us”. Pastor Taylor is ringing the name of Cedar Grove throughout the city of Shreveport. He has formed a partnership with Atkins Elementary and the Cedar Grove SDA Church. As we prepare to start our building project Pastor Taylor and Sis. Taylor graciously host weekly fellowship lunch at their home. In the 8 months that Pastor Taylor has been here, 19 souls have come to Christ..
